CRAPE MYRTLE FESTIVAL & FIREWORKS |

“Peace, Love, and Crape Myrtles.”
The gates open at 6 p.m. July 3 in the parking lot of Lumpkins Stadium for the tailgate party spectators can bring bring lawn chairs and barbecue grills to cook out before or during the show. The band “The Cannons” will take the stage at 7 p.m. for a concert presented by Chicago Title Insurance Co. Starting around 9 p.m. Radio station KBEC-AM (1390) will broadcast the H-E-B Fireworks with patriotic music.
The Crape Myrtle Festival and Parade are free to the public.
Other sponsors include the Crape Myrtle Council and the Waxahachie Chamber of Commerce & Convention and Visitors Bureau.

The Tuesday Trail Team is a new program launched by the city’s parks and recreation department. The group will meet each Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. in the large pavilion at Getzendaner Park. There is no cost to participate. Part of the weekly program will include an exercise demonstration before the walking, including activities such as instruction on proper stretching before walking. The demonstrations will be led by local volunteer and non-profit fitness organizations. Participants will be allowed to bring leashed dogs. As with any other exercise program, please consult your physician before beginning. For questions regarding the Tuesday Trail Team, please contact the city at 972-937-7330, ext. 181.

"The Natural" is a 1984 film adaptation of Bernard Malamud's 1952 baseball novel of the same name. The film was directed by Barry Levinson and stars Robert Redford. The film, like the book, recounts the experiences of Roy Hobbs, an individual with great "natural" baseball talent, spanning decades of Roy's success and his suffering.
The Natural was nominated for four Academy Awards, including Best Supporting Actress (Glenn Close), and nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress (Kim Basinger).
